Ted J. McCann is the fly-below-the-radar guy in our industry. Having started his career at ESP Guitars, where he rose to the position of Operations Manager, McCann launched his first business venture as the President of Coffin Case in 1999. Three years later, McCann left Coffin Case to found Core One Creative and has since gone on to design more than 175 products for the company's six successful brands as well as for industry giants including Fender, BC Rich, Jackson, Peavey, and Juicy Couture. McCann's fearless ability to take risks as a designer has been encouraged by his multifaceted life as a musician, surfer, and traveler. Born into a family of designers and inventors, genetics may also be a factor in McCann's knack for prolific and popular creations—his grandfather, for instance, was the inventor of a hydraulic mechanism for airline seats as well as the architect of his family home on Robertson Blvd (since sold and now known as a famous star-studded restaurant, The Ivy). | |
Highlights in McCann's product design history for Core One Creative include: |
||
2003 Kёpur, a strap line inspired by the former Indestructa Strap. McCann soon expands the line by adding silk-screened "symbol"' designs. The straps gain notoriety when Guitar Player's Editor-in-Chief tries (and fails) to destroy the indestructable straps with the help of his car and an iron fence, before giving up for fear of breaking his bumper. Later, the straps were awarded "Most Innovative Product" by the 2003 Guitar Player Reader's Choice Awards. Core Equipment, top-selling diamond plate guitar and gear cases that are soon copied by competing companies. Core Equipment's rolling amp head case, the "AH-606," was also featured in the 2003 Guitar Player Reader's Choice Awards as a "Ultimate Value" case. 2004 Bullet Cable, an instrument cable line that makes its debut with the Coil Cable, a modern improvement on the retro "telephone cord" design. Featuring .44 Mag bullet connectors inspired by a stray bullet found near Core One Creative's studio, the Coil Cable quickly gains the attention of top musicians such as Prince, Paul Gilbert, and Troy Van Leeuwen. Trench, a new strap line with "Dirt," "Suit," and "Scout" styles inspired by music fashion, corporate fabrics, and military lifestyles. 2005 Core X2, a premium cable line designed in partnership with a leading (or, in our opinion, THE leading) cable engineer for optimum performance in sound and utility. The line, which outperforms other high-end professional cables in measured tests, is affordably priced for "the masses." 2006 The Core X2 DIY Kit, a professional-grade set of premium Core X2 cable and precision-engineered connectors with custom-designed pre-set hex grounding screw depths for perfect connector-to-cable assembly. 2007 The Spark Plug Cable, a high-octane performance instrument cable with spark plug connectors that joins the Bullet Cable line. The "Spark" rapidly becomes a favorite among car aficionados and musicians alike after being featured in the May 2008 issue of Hot Rod magazine. 2008 Bullet Cable Instrument Cables, DIY Connectors, and DIY Cables, new Bullet Cable products that launch at Winter 2008 NAMM (where they are awarded "Best in Show") and immediately gain the industry's attention for their innovative design. Featuring printed jackets and quality-molded connectors and delivering quality sound, the products cement Bullet Cable's reputation for audiophile-grade image accessories. |
