Why is oxygen-free copper (OFC) important?

Rating: +1

Positive Negative

By nature, copper oxidizes. The corrosion will cause an eventual loss in conductivity. In other words, corrosion affects sound negatively.

Oxygen-free copper is produced by melting and casting copper under a near vacuum atmosphere to lower the residual oxygen content.

Oxygen-free copper is believed to enhance conductivity and therefore to be advantageous to low frequency (audio) signal. It is highly valued by those who consider themselves as able to distinguish the subtleties of sound.
